Starfruit and green tea dessert topping
Green tea is rather tart, so combining it with sweet and tart starfruit makes incredible taste sense. A warm topping for angel food cake, pound cake and just about any other cake.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1" piece of fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
- 4 green tea bags
- 3 large Florida starfruit
- Lime or mango sherbet
Instructions
-
In a medium saucepan over low heat, add the water, sugar and ginger. Stir until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.
-
Turn the heat up to medium-high and bring to a boil.
-
Turn the heat down to low and simmer until the syrup thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
-
Add the tea bags, cover and let brew for 5 minutes.
-
With a vegetable peeler, trim the points of the starfruit. Slice into 1/4" slices, discarding the seeds.
-
Add the starfruit to the saucepan and gently toss to cover.
-
Cover and let sit for 15 to 30 minutes.
-
Top each individual dish of ice cream with syrup and add the individual's portion of starfruit slices.
